Virginia Smith is a Child Services Specialist and Forensic Interviewer in Anderson and has been with First Light since June 2022. As a former detective in the Special Victims Unit of law enforcement with a focus on the sexual assault of both children and adults, Virginia brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep understanding of the investigative side of working with victims and survivors. After serving in that role for five years, she felt called to work with survivors in a more personal way and has enjoyed building relationships with those served by First Light. Virginia uses her prior experience to ensure our facility is secure, survivors are heard, and families’ needs are met.
Virginia grew up in Connecticut and moved to Anderson, SC during her college years. She is a graduate of Anderson University and resides locally with her loving husband and their two doggos. She spends her time volunteering in her community, hiking, or hosting game nights with friends and family.

What do you love about your job?
I truly enjoy working with the families that use our services and being able to bring them all hope during such a difficult time in their lives. We see children and their families at their lowest, most vulnerable moments. It warms my heart to see them improve and heal from traumas through the services we provide.
