Roma IV is an Assistance Dogs International Certified Facility Dog. She was born on September 21, 2013 in Santa Rosa California and raised in the Florida Keys by a Canine Companions for Independence volunteer. She and her handler, Chelsey Hucker, have been working as a team in Anderson since November 2015. Roma is trained to sit for extended periods of time providing comfort to witnesses and victims of violent crimes. She has accompanied victims in court proceedings, forensic interviews, and counseling sessions. In 2016 Roma made history by being the first dog in South Carolina to be present with a witness under the witness stand during a trial. She slept through the whole thing. Roma is an integral part of our team and brings love, tail-wags, and lots of fur wherever she goes!

How would your friends describe you in three words?

hungry, lazy, loving

What book has made you think the most?

Raising a Hero by Laura Numeroff. Because not all heroes wear capes - some have lots of fur and four paws!

What do you love about your job?

I get so much love and attention—especially from my smallest friends! Secret snacks are a pretty good perk too... but don't tell mom.
